Last Friday 17 May, BCAEC held a special training day for volunteer English tutors.
A visiting trainer from Australian Multicultural Education Services (AMES) presented a new topic: Building Confidence in the Learner.
Volunteer Tutor Program coordinator Linda Gordon said, “It was a great opportunity to better understand the students’ experience and develop greater empathy.”
BCAEC’s Volunteer Tutor Program matches volunteer tutors to migrant English students who need some additional help or cannot attend regular classes. Sometimes the volunteers sit in with the students during class time and others visit the students in their homes.
Of the six participants in Friday’s session, three were attending training for the first time.
